Mondays with Murdock: Name That Location!

“Excuse me…which way to Berlin?” ~H.M. Murdock

Hey, all you Gen X’ers: remember “Where In the World is Carmen Sandiego?”

I sure do. And I miss it as surely as I miss Crystal Pepsi, TaleSpin, and carefree summer afternoons.

Which is why I decided to resurrect the spirit of Carmen Sandiego, with a twist.

Every Monday (or every other Monday, depending on what P&Q is currently cooking in our crazy kitchen), I’ll be featuring a new contest called “Where in the World is H.M. Murdock?” I’ll be sending our fearless site mascot on a mission somewhere in the world. I’ll give a few clues. Your job is simple: find him with (hopefully) no Googling or Wikiing if possible. If you’re the first to “find” him, you’ll get something really cool for your blog or Facebook page from me.

I also hope it gives some of you guys a chance to virtually travel to places you might never go. You know, with the way the TSA and airfares are these days and all.

We’ll see how it goes. This is just something I thought might bring back some happy memories for everyone who misses Carmen Sandiego, who, as far as I can tell, is still at large somewhere.

So, Murdock is ready to be sent to some far-flung location, and here we go. Ironically enough, the first spot selected on the Random Generator was Berlin. He’s already been to Berlin. Let’s try again:

Clue #1: Here’s the aerial view from Murdock’s helicopter…

Clue #2: A satellite view…

Clue #3: According to the bird book Murdock brought with him, there should be a Houbara Bustard (Chlamydotis undulata) or two around here. This place is also on the Ramsar Wetlands conservation list.

#4: This place is a little off the beaten track. The nearest city seems to be a place called “Biskra.” Wonder if they serve biscuits there?

Clue #5: One of Murdock’s best friends takes his nickname from a famous historical figure who came from what is now this region. (It’s also the tenth-largest country in the world…can you believe that?)

#6: This place reminds Murdock a lot of a certain famous location in the northern part of “the Beehive State.”

First correct answer has it…good luck! Hope it brings back some happy Carmen Sandiego memories.

As always…if you liked this post, click that “Like” button and add P&Q to your blogrolls and subscriptions!

  2. Is the answer Algeria?

  3. wow, I wonder where it is????

  4. Rockapella is now going to be stuck in my head for the rest of the day, and it’s all your fault.

I thought of you last night when I watched the A-Team.
