Mondays With Murdock: Who Said It?

MONDAY, n. In Christian counties, the day after the [baseball] game. ~Ambrose Bierce

It’s another Monday, P&Q Rangers, and I’m still plum tuckered out, to use that peculiar Southern expression. Between a weekend of NCAA upsets galore, killer allergies from the early spring, insomniac viewings of TaleSpin on DVD, and a day of mandatory staff training at work, it’s about all I can handle. But I know some of you have been waiting for another edition of MWM. Here it is. (Our hyperactive site mascot wouldn’t let me take a Monday off. He’s just that way.)

I’m trying to mix it up a little bit. Last week it was an author. This week, we have a mixed-up quote. Your challenge is to unscramble the quote and name the author. I’ve given a few pictorial clues to help you out. Whomever gives the first correct answer will win a bit of cool swag for his/her blog or Facebook page. Because, ya know, I just like doing ’em.

Here’s the quote in incorrect order:

again in greatest you in fall not after The falling accomplishment but is rising never

Clue #1: The speaker’s alma mater

Clue #2: A play about the speaker’s life opened here:

Clue #3: Both the speaker’s parents were born near this city:

Clue #4: One of the speaker’s early jobs was at this location:

Clue #5: The speaker is still a beloved figure in this city:

That’s it for today, my loyal readers…unless any of you have some home remedies for colds you’d like to share!

Coming this week: movie reviews and MUCH more cool stuff. Stay tuned! As always, if you enjoyed this post, click “Like” and subscribe to P&Q!

  1. Probably way off here, but I’m gonna go with Poe (mostly b/c the one pic looks like it could be West Point and I know he either attended or worked their.)

  2. Is the answer Vince Lombardi?

  3. Damn I forgot he worked at West Point…
